Charles Wesley Emerson's home in Millis, Massachusetts was formerly part of the estate
of Captain Joseph Lovell, of Revolutionary history. Emerson purchased the property soon
after the town of Millis was incorporated. As with his family home in Rochester, Vermont,
Emerson added porches and a classical portico to the existing structure on the property.
Dr. Emerson was one of the largest tax-payers in Millis, and served as the town's first
Chairman of the Board of Water Commissioners. [89151]
