Rolfe was the second president of Emerson College, serving in this capacity from 1903 until 1908.
Rolfe was an educator, editor and scholar best known for the editions of Shakespeare plays that he
prepared for use in elementary schools. He taught English in several Massachusetts communities,
including Dorchester, Lawrence and Cambridge. He also chaired the English department at Martha's Vineyard
Summer Institute, where he made the acquaintance of Henry Lawrence Southwick. He became a lecturer in
English Literature in 1885 and continued to teach until his retirement in 1908. [03006]
