President Gus Turbeville

Gus Turbeville was the eighth president of Emerson College, serving from 1975-1977. Turbeville came to Emerson from Worcester State College, where he was a visiting professor. Previously, he had served as president of Coker College and Northland College, in South Carolina, and as chair of the Sociology departments at the University of Wisconsin at Superior and the University of Minnesota at Duluth. During his brief tenure as President, he raised faculty salaries, reduced the CollegeÕs debt and recruited nationally prominent individuals to serve of the newly created Board of Overseers.
